Bristol Nordic Walking at Sand Bay
Sunday 15th September 9.30am
Meeting Point:
Sand Bay bus terminus car park, Sand Road, Kewstoke BS22 9UH

Please join us for what should be a fabulous Sunday morning walk along beaches and through woodland, ending at the popular Brunello Lounge where we hope you’ll join us for brunch (not included). To return, we’ll catch one of the open-topped buses taking the scenic route on the coast road back to the car park.

Our walk begins half way along Sand Bay beach at the bus terminus car park.  Sand Bay is a long, flat expanse of sand and shingle flanked at either end by two promontories.  It’s often referred to as Weston super Mare’s ‘hidden gem’ due to its quiet and unspoilt nature.  We shall be walking for about a mile along the beach before heading into the woods of Worlebury Hill.

There’s a steady climb of about 100 metres on good tracks to the water tower, then a very enjoyable flat path which runs through woodland and the site of the Iron Age hill fort, Worlebury Camp. The path goes virtually to the tip of the headland and there’s a decent view of the now derelict Birnbeck Pier before the path descends a short but steep flight of steps to the purlieus of Weston super Mare.

A section on quiet roads leads us to Marine Lake, Knightstone Causeway and Weston super Mare beach itself.  Our destination is Brunello Lounge - - which has an excellent brunch menu and a vibrant atmosphere.

To return to the cars there are half-hourly open topped buses which depart from the Grand Pier opposite Brunello Lounge, winding along the scenic coast road past Birnbeck Pier to the bus terminus car park.  You are of course welcome to walk back but this would not be instructor led.
