Would you like to Shape Up?

Booking will soon be open for our fourth Shape Up course where Mel will help you become slimmer, happier and armed for the future with a new healthy way of eating.

In this fun and effective 5 session course Mel Mackintosh, a Nordic walking instructor and GP, will be discussing the Blood Sugar Diet (BSD) by Michael Mosely. Topics include low carb eating, how to improve your gut health, the benefits of fasting and how to boost overall wellbeing. It is an educational rather than a target driven course (no weigh-ins required) and you can follow as much or as little of the advice that suits you. You'll also hear Mel's story of how the BSD completely changed her life and why she has become such a fan of this way of eating.

You will also be doing some high intensity Nordic walking - this means a shorter Nordic walk but with hills and/or at speed to give you an effective calorie burn and boost your metabolism. But don't worry if you're not fit, you can go at your own pace. We just ask you to push youself as much as you can.

Here's a typical session:

9.30     Meet at Henbury Village Hall in time for a 9.30am warm up

9.35     A twenty minute high intensity Nordic walk. Hills are excellent for increasing metabolism, burning fat and improving your fitness, so you’ll be doing these throughout the session.

9.55      You can now rest as we've hired an indoor space where you can sit down and Mel will discuss the topic for that day. Mel will send this information by email after the session so no need to take notes.

10.30   Twenty minute high intensity Nordic walk

10.50   Stretches

10.55   Further discussion on the Blood Sugar Diet and other topics.

11.30   Finish

The session consists of approximately 50 minutes of Nordic walking (including warm up and stretches) and 70 minutes of discussion.

As we said you can follow as much or as little of this plan as you choose but as a group we will be there to support and motivate each other, plus we'll discuss the easiest ways to fit this healthy eating plan into our lives.

Session dates:

19 & 20 Jan 9.30 - 11.30am

26th Jan      9.30 - 11.30am

2nd Feb      9.30 - 11.30am

9th Feb       9.30 - 11.30am

"Here's just some of the great reviews from previous attendees or read Ros's blog to see how she got on when she tried the BSD.

I have lost 10lbs, 5cm off my hips and 7cm off my waist. My husband has also been following the plan with me. We have not been strict with the calories but have tried to follow the 'rules' when able without being a slave to the diet. He has also lost 10lbs. The Nordic walking has also increased my stamina and energy and decreased my inches. I can feel that I am toning as I am losing weight which hasn't happened before!"

"My main goal was to gather information. There was sooooooo much. I employed some elements into my eating habits and I lost weight and centimeters around my legs and waist."

"This is a wonderfully thought out course. I enjoyed every aspect of it. It is encouraging and informative and allows everyone to take as little or as much as they want from it without any weighing or measuring comparisons. Everyone takes their own personal journey and shares as little or as much as they like. Absolutely no pressure to follow the diet at all. Everyone should do it just for the information they will receive that just might change their lives for the better."

"I could feel the changes in my clothes although this didn't show on the scales. So I just got rid of the SCALES!!!"

Cost £120
