We are running a very unique half day trip with Ros and Valerie Green, an Nordic walking instructor who leads walks in the beautiful Forest of Dean.
Here's the itinerary:
We'll meet at the Colliery at 9.45am and enjoy a two hour Nordic walk through the beautiful and ancient forest with Valerie and some of her Nordic walkers. Our route will take us through idyllic spots such as Cannop Ponds and Mallards Pike Lake and will be mainly flat.
Then we'll visit Hopewell Colliery for a 45-50 minute guided tour of the coal mine with a Freeminer of the Forest of Dean who will explain how the mines work and what you're seeing as you go deeper underground. We'll strap on a miner’s helmet and lamp and follow our guide underground where they will navigate a route through a section of the tunnels dug out since the 1820s. We'll even see how to work a 30-inch thick seam of coal! This fascinating tour has been rated 5/5 on Tripadvisor.
To finish we'll have a delicious lunch around 1.30pm at the Colliery Cafe (optional) - we'll be sending out a menu beforehand so you can pre order. Lunch is not included in the price.
We think this mix of Nordic walking and history will be very popular so BOOK NOW or contact Ros if you have any questions.
Cost members £25, non members £30.
