You are often telling us how much fitter you feel since starting Nordic walking and we can see how this motivates you to keep up exercise.  So to help you measure your fitness progress we will be running free fitness benchmarking sessions on the first Saturday of every month starting in December.

You will be walking the famous tree-lined avenue on the Downs which is just shy of 0.5 miles and you'll receive your time and average walking speed - you can then compare that against age-equivalent national averages. 

You can choose to walk or Nordic walk the route (we can lend you poles if you need them).  Either way it should be motivating and fun.

Meeting point
The meeting point will be at the start of the tree lined avenue on Ladies Mile.  This is roughly opposite the overflow parking area on the Downs that the zoo uses during the summer.  We will put a Bristol Nordic Walking feather banner to help you find us.

Preparation
Please try to have done a ten minute warm-up before you arrive for your fitness benchmarking.  This is particularly important on a cold day as it will take your body a while to get going.

Duration
We have allowed 30 minutes for the test in order to explain how it works and to give you your times at the end.  We will email you your average walking speed and age-equivalent comparisons the following week.
