I have been Nordic Walking since 2015 after extensive abdominal surgery in 2014 left my stomach and pelvic floor muscles extremely weak. After the surgery I quickly gained weight, became very unfit and, as I found running uncomfortable, I struggled to regain my fitness. I was gifted a beginners Nordic Walking lesson from Bristol Nordic Walking for my birthday from a friend which I was initially reluctant to go to as I thought it probably wasn’t something I would enjoy BUT I can honestly say I’ve never looked back.
I lost weight and was fitter than I’ve been for years even though in those early days I was walking only once a week.
Knowing how beneficial Nordic Walking has been to my own health and fitness, I wanted to share my passion with others so decided to train as an instructor and completed the INWA/British Nordic Walking instructor course in February 2019. In January 2020 I passed the Level 2 “Fitness for Walking” qualification which will compliment my instructor training greatly, and I can’t wait to pass on my love of Nordic walking to as many people as I can!
